Inspiration

My main inspiration derives from an enormous theme of nature.

When I was young, I loved playing in the forest and river. I loved flowers, leaves, acorns and insects.
Clearly, I was unconsciously attracted to natural environment and natural things. But around 4th grade, watching “Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind” by Haruo Miyazaki and a news segment about the deforestation of the Amazon forest overwhelmed me with immense emotions. Then I consciously understood how much the theme of nature is significant to me.

In Japanese culture and tradition, the idea of nature and nature as “kami” or spirit are weaved deeply within. Shinto, a Japanese ethnic religion, is deeply rooted in nature. And the idea of trees, mountains, rivers, animals and oceans as sacred and divine comes most naturally to me.

I feel as my duty to make a homage to nature with my art. And it has been an ongoing journey to successfully complete this task.
